Product Care

Down Duvets and Pillows

Day to day care of your down duvet and pillow:

  • Always use a duvet cover and pillow cases to protect your duvet and pillows from soiling and wearing out.
  • Regular fluffing of your duvet and pillows will ensure that they last longer.
  • If you wish to store your duvet or pillows, make sure to store it in the material bag in which you received it.
  • Down needs to breathe – so do NOT store it in a closed plastic bag.

Cleaning your down duvet and pillows:

  • Wash your down items early in the morning, preferably on a warm and windy day.
  • Our down products may be washed in a washing machine using the wool cycle, or by hand with water and a liquid soap.  We supply a special down soap too, which you can find in our Cleaning Products tab in the shop menu.
  • Do NOT use softeners, bleach or any brightening products on your down items.
  • After the item has been washed, rinse it thoroughly in the machine. Two to three rinses should suffice.
  • Hang it on the washing line to dry, preferably out of direct sunlight as this causes the down to "sweat" and create an odour.
  • Fluff it from time to time as it dries or use your tumble drier on a medium heat.

If you want to have a really soft item, place it in a tumble dryer with some tennis balls for about 20 minutes. The heat will allow the down to “loft”. The tennis balls will soften and fluff up the item. The same procedure may be used to freshen up your other down items, even when actual washing is not required.

Please be sure to read the care label on each product for the best results.

Linen Products

Cleaning your Cotton Percale Linen:

Sleeping in fine, crisp linen is always a pleasure, which is why our linen is manufactured from the highest quality pre-shrunk 100% Cotton Percale. If you take good care of it, it will prolong the life of your linen while maintaining its beauty.

  • Machine wash at 40°C and tumble dry with cooling down period.
  • You may also hang the linen to drip dry - this will result in minimum creasing.
  • For best results lay flat and iron while the fabric is still damp.

Please be sure to read the care label on each linen item for the best results.

Sleeping Bags, Jackets and Slippers

Day to day care of your Makoti sleeping bag, jacket and slippers:

  • Shake your product out before using it to fluff the fibres and maximise its "loft" - the thick insulating layer.
  • Make sure it is completely dry before storing it.
  • When storing your down product, always use the material bag in which the product was shipped.
  • Do NOT place your down item in a closed plastic bag. Down needs to be able to breathe.

Cleaning your sleeping bag, jacket and slippers:

  • Wash early in the morning, preferably on a warm and windy day.
  • Our down products may be washed in a washing machine using the wool cycle or by hand (do not wring) with water and a liquid soap.  We supply a special down soap which you can buy from our shop menu.
  • Bleach and softeners may NOT be used to clean your down item.
  • Once it has been washed, rinse it about two or three times in the washing machine.
  • Direct sunlight causes down to sweat and give off an odour, so try to hang it in the shade.

For best results place it in a tumble dryer with some tennis balls for about 20 minutes. The heat will allow the down to loft. The tennis balls will soften and fluff up the item. The same procedure may be used to freshen up your other down items, even when actual washing is not required.

Towels

Cleaning your Makoti towels:

  • Machine wash towels at a maximum of 60°C, using a small amount of fabric softener, which helps to improve absorbency.
  • Do NOT use bleach.
  • Stretch out and re-shape the towels from corner to corner while still damp.
  • Take care not to over dry the towels in the tumble dryer as this makes them stiff and brittle.
  • After the towel has been washed, rinse it thoroughly.
  • Hang on the washing line to dry, preferably out of direct sunlight, or use your tumble drier on a medium heat.

Please be sure to read the care label on each item for best results.
